R-Time at Marish Primary School

At Marish Primary School, R-Time is an integral part of our personal development and behaviour curriculum. It supports pupils’ social, emotional, and mental wellbeing while promoting positive relationships and respectful behaviour. R-Time contributes directly to our whole-school approach to creating a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment where pupils can thrive.

Through structured paired activities, pupils develop essential life skills that enable them to communicate effectively, manage emotions, and build positive relationships with peers and adults.

Intent

The intent of R-Time at Marish Primary School is to:

  • Develop pupils’ emotional literacy, resilience, and self-regulation
    • Promote positive behaviour and respectful relationships
    • Support inclusion and reduce incidents of conflict and bullying
    • Build pupils’ confidence, cooperation, and self-esteem
    • Prepare pupils with the personal skills required for learning and life in modern Britain

R-Time aligns with our PSHE and safeguarding curriculum and supports the school’s wider values of respect, responsibility, and kindness.

Implementation

R-Time is delivered regularly across the school using a consistent, structured approach. Sessions follow a clear six-step model to ensure high-quality and inclusive practice.

  4. Structured Activity

  6. Positive Closure
Sessions conclude with recognition of effort and cooperation, reinforcing respect and gratitude.

Safeguarding and Inclusion

R-Time supports safeguarding by developing pupils’ awareness of emotions, relationships, and personal boundaries. It promotes inclusion by ensuring all pupils participate, feel valued, and experience positive peer interaction regardless of background, ability, or need.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The effectiveness of R-Time is monitored through:

  • Behaviour and wellbeing data
    • Staff observations and feedback
    • Pupil voice
    • PSHE monitoring and leadership oversight

This ensures consistent high-quality delivery and continuous improvement.
