Better Behaved

Our Approach to Behaviour

At Marish Primary School, we expect all pupils to demonstrate excellent behaviour. We empower our pupils with the skills they need to be respectful, tolerant and socially adept citizens who make positive contributions to society.

Our Three Diamond Rules

At the heart of our behaviour approach are our Three Diamond rules, which guide everything we do:

Show respect and good manners at all times

Care for everyone and everything

Follow instructions with thought and care

These rules apply everywhere in our school – in classrooms, corridors, the playground, the dining hall and on school trips. They help our children understand what good behaviour looks like and are understood by every member of our school community – from our youngest pupils in Reception to our Year 6 children preparing for secondary school. Our diamond rules create a shared language and clear expectations that help everyone feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

R Time: Building Positive Relationships

We deliver our behaviour approach through R Time – a dedicated lesson that teaches children how to have positive relationships with others. These essential skills are practised and embedded in every area of our school day and across our curriculum.

We believe that teaching the skills required to be considerate and thoughtful citizens, who are engaged with society, is the key to our success. It prepares our pupils not only for the next phase of their education but for adulthood and life in modern Britain.

Our Expectations

Through our behaviour approach, we help children to:

  • Develop respect and tolerance for others, including those with different backgrounds, beliefs and characteristics
  • Build positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Understand their responsibilities as members of our school community and wider society
  • Manage their emotions and resolve conflicts constructively
  • Make good choices about their behaviour and understand the consequences of their actions

A Whole-School Approach

Our behaviour expectations are consistent across the school. Every member of staff models the behaviour we expect from our pupils, creating a culture where:

  • Kindness and respect are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Every child feels safe, valued and can thrive in our community.
  • Positive behaviour is recognised and celebrated.
  • Any concerns are addressed promptly and fairly.

Working Together

We work in partnership with parents and carers to support children’s behaviour and personal development. We believe that children thrive when home and school work together.
